Through this, the designers are stimulated to utilize their creative freedom and to collaborate on self-initiated projects. These projects are aimed towards the combination of their interests in critical theory, media culture and their graphic design practice. With the pigeon as the main point of focus, I strived to design a clear and simplistic logo and identity for Random Pigeon House. The end product is a dynamic and recognizable logo which can be transformed into many forms and used in different colors for playful as well as for static use, with the freedom to adjust the identity for new publications and events. The first edition of Studio Cup at Studio C really happened. This beer pong tournament provided artists and designers from all kinds of disciplines with an opportunity to meet their colleagues at Studio C, and to team up with their desk neighbours to become the first Studio Cup champions in the building! For this first edition I designed the visual identity, which consisted of silkscreen printed posters, a motion promo and beer pong tables especially designed for the event. Studio Cup was held in a gym which was transformed into a place to have fun and meet new people for one night. We crave pixels. They are talking to us, responding to us, acknowledging us – all as often as possible. Brands are trying to create an image out of our experience with technology. They give it human features so it becomes something we can identify with. These technologies become personalities, characters and entities to interact with, to connect with us. What is our relationship with our technologies? Azora questions how digital technology intertwines with ourselves and doubts our relation and intimacy with our devices in an interactive video to be viewed through the medium of gaming. Armed with a PlayStation controller, you step into the world of Azora, a fictitious digital entity who wants to become friends with you. Twenty multidisciplinary designers and artists researched the concept of circularity through design. Their approach to and thoughts on the theme were displayed in different installations and media. ‘Bijna rond’ translates to ‘nearly round’, and refers to the students’ research on circularity. Based on personal interest, each student chose a designer or a specialist in a different, related field. What question was on their minds? For the student, this question then served as the starting point for an investigation into his or her own point of view. Thereafter, they translated this specific question into a poster or a video work which they showed in an exhibition. Together with Niels van Haaften, Niek Does, Anouk van de Grootevheen and Kimberly Abbott I designed and produced the spatial design for the exhibition. Our approach was to continue the dialogue about graphic design within the exhibition. By opting for a non-static layout where visitors could alter the way the works were arranged by rotating the boards, different works could hang side by side, resulting in a side-by-side display of different opinions on the discipline.
